5 Step Evening Beauty Regime for Mature Skin

It seems like every time you turn around there is something new in beauty to add to your list. I’m a simple girl and most of my friends are too so I spoke with them and we gathered our favorite steps and products that effectively streamlined our nighttime regime.  We lean towards natural and organic products whenever possible. While my friends and I are in our 40’s & 50’s these steps can apply to all ages.

Clean Your Face

Sounds so simple and obvious but many of us don’t take the time to really clean our faces completely. The tricky part is that while you want to get your skin clean you don’t want to strip it of it’s natural oils. This is particularly important as you age or if you happen to have dry skin.

Sensitive Skin – I am a big believer in Cetaphil Cleanser. This gentle skin cleanser removes surface oils and makeup without stripping skin. Leaves skin healthy and balanced.

Average (mixed) Skin – We recommend Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. This lightweight gel has soy that’s rich in proteins which help maintain skin elasticity and suppleness. Cucumber and rosewater help to roundup ingredients that help to calm and balance your skin.

Oily Skin – We recommend Burt’s Bees Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream. Its 99.9% natural – packed with chamomile, aloe and echinacea this cleaner purifies skin and helps to minimize inflammation.

Add Treatments

We all use various retinol creams. Retinoids work by prompting surface skin cells to turn over and die rapidly, making way for new cell growth underneath. They slow the breakdown of collagen and thicken the deeper layer of skin where wrinkles develop. There are so many choices and levels of potency. The most forgotten and valuable step for mature skin is beauty oils and serums. These are important because as you age your skin actually stops producing it’s own natural healthy skin oils so if you want your skin to have that glow or tone it used to it’s important to add it back in. Some of us use SHINE Organic Brightening Oil in the evenings to even skin tone, minimize dark spots/imperfections and moisturize skin leaving it with a subtle glow. Many of us also use REWIND Organic Toning Oil. REWIND tones your skin, reduces fine lines and helps your skin to maintain its moisture and elasticity.

Tip: Be sure to include your neck & decolletage. Many beauty oils can also be effective on dry hair ends.


Sensitive Skin – We recommend CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM Ultra Lightweight. This has ceramides, naturally occurring lipids (fats) that hydrate and strengthen the skin. CeraVe also contains skin-plumping hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to help minimize inflammation.

Average Skin – Many use Oil of Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream in the evening. Let’s face it, you can spend a small fortune on night creams but in a recent Good Housekeeping Beauty Clinic Lab Study Olay’s cream outperformed 10 competitors – even a prestige $440 one. Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream is packed with anti-aging ingredients including niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. It will help to increase hydration and texture in about 4 weeks.

Dry Skin – We recommend, and many others do as well – Tatcha The Dewey Skin Cream. This cream is rich and contains an algae blend as well as hyaluronic acid that plump and hydrate mature skin.

Tip: Be sure to include your neck & decolletage.

Focus on Eyes & Brows

Eye Cream – best overall – Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream . This eye cream leverages banana powder which helps to brighten, minimize dark circles and addresses signs of aging. As you get older, we tend to lose lashes and brows. At the risk of sounding like a commercial my friends and I do use WINK Lash & Brow Oil. It’s organic and natural and helps to stimulate lash and brow hair follicles from a resting to growing phase resulting in thinker, longer, lashes and brows.

Treat your lips, feet & hands. 

It’s not fancy but it really works! Aquaphor Healing Ointment has been around for over 90 years and it’s recommended by early every dermatologist.  Composed of petroleum, mineral oils, lanolin and more it temporarily protects and helps heal minor cuts, scrapes and burns but most importantly it repairs and protects cracked skin and lips. I put it on my lips every night and when my hands and feet are dry I put it on them before I go to bed. If you have super dry feet or hands you can wear beauty gloves on your hands and socks on your feet while you sleep – this will really lock in the moisture.
