THE 2016 MOTHER’S DAY GIFT GUIDE

Mother’s Day 2016 is just a week away. Do you have your perfect gift for the woman who birthed, bathed and cared for you your entire life?

When we put it that way, I’m not sure there is a perfect gift, but here’s our quick gift guide–with items that we have actually tried and absolutley loved–for the most important woman in your life. Don’t worry – everything can be delivered before Mother’s Day; just hurry!

Top 5 Mother’s Day 2016 Picks

In addition to our own WINK lash & brow oil , available at $10 off just for mom with code “mothersday2016”, here’s our top 5 picks for your mother this Mother’s Day:

1. Dry Shampoo ($4.40 – $23)

Dry shampoo is a literal pick-me-up in a bottle. It’s the hair secret of news anchor and models alike. It can instantly volumize and remove the appearance of oil from hair.  You can use it after you wash and blowdry, as a volumizing spray, or–as a hair washing substitute, if you’re in a rush and don’t have time for a shower. Regardless, it’s an awesome tool for any woman to have in her vanity.

Splurge: Detox by Dry Bar ($23 at Sephora.com)

2. Lipstick ($5.59 – $24)

The namesake of The Lipstick Effect, lipstick is always in vogue. The trends tend to change over time, so this year we’re suggesting you introduce mom to a new spin on lipstick: mattes. Matte lipstick gives the lips a fuller, sexier look – no fillers needed.

For our splurge, we chose a Bite Lip Crayon because of the precision and flexibility a crayon gives, combined with the choice of 18 colors in high pigment. Plus, Bite gives the best lip on the market right now, no doubt. On the drugstore dupe, we chose Maybelline because of their massive comeback in 2016 and recommitment to quality color.

Splurge: Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24 at Sephora.com; available in 18 colors)

3. Moisturizer ($10.79 – $75)

As we get older, our skin tends to lose it’s moisture. Moisturizers mask the apperance of fine line and wrinkles, while ones packed with the right ingredients (antioxidants, EFAs, peptides) can prevent future wrinkles and encourage cell turnover. While you don’t have to remind your mom that she’s getting older, a nice moisturizer could be just what she needs in her life.

For the splurge, we’ve chosen Peter Thomas Roth’s Laser-Free Resurfacer, because of it’s incredible ability to moisturize the absolute driest, most damaged skin. It’s also packed with antioxidants and other highly concentrated plant extracts to reduce redness and increase cell turnover. For the drugstore dupe (though it’s not technically available at a drugstore to our knowledge), is Radha’s Organic Jojoba Oil. Jojoba Oil mimics the skin’s natural oils, so it is more easily absorbed by the skin. It’s packed with antioxidants and EFAs for better skin health and cell turnover. Downside? The smell of a natural oil isn’t for everyone.

4. Chocolate ($4 – $82)

Chocolate has got to be a woman’s best friend. There is a big gap in my mind between chocolate at #1 and lipstick at #2. Why? Because chocolate is your friend every day of the year, no matter how you like. I love you, Chocolate.

Packed with antioxidants and polyphenols… do I need to say anything on Chocolate’s behalf? I think not.

Although Teuscher has my heart for the world’s best chocolate, I’m not sure if you can get the real deal from Switzerland in a timely manner. A close second is Vosges, in Chicago. They specialize in exotic pairings and a high quality chocolate experience. A mixed box of their truffles is literally to die for. They have a quick expiration date, so you can only order them directly through their site. For a cheaper taste of this chocolate godsend, you can order a bar or 2 on Amazon. We suggest the Pink Himalayan Salt, or Bacon, or Chili varieties.

The Drugstore dupe is another favorite: Lindt. I’ve probably eaten all of their truffles and bars twice, but the Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt has my heart. It’s the perfect blend of decadently bitter, sweet and salty. We couldn’t find a single bar that could be quickly delivered online, but Lindt is available everywhere from Walmart to CVS.

5. Blush ($3 – $30)

Much like lipstick, blush is one of those things you just need a swipe of before leaving the house. Finding the right shade can be difficult, because it’s so dependent on your skin tone and undertones, but we’ve chosen universally flattering shades that should work for every mother.

For our splurge, we’ve chosen NARS in Orgasm (obviously). It is the most highly-acclaimed blush in a universally flattering “peachy pink” with just a hint of shimmer. For the Drugstore dupe, we’ve chosen an orgasm dupe by E.L.F. called “Tickled Pink”. This is the only item on the entire list I haven’t personally tried, but beauty bloggers say it’s a close–and economical–dupe.
